Guridy on Thursday, October 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall (1906 Calder Avenue, Beaumont).\nAward-winning historian and author Frank A. Guridy will explore how the United States became a sports-crazed nation during the 1960s and 70s, emphasizing the decisive role Texas-based athletes and sports entrepreneurs played in the country’s dramatic transformation.\nGuridy is an accomplished scholar whose research has focused on sport history, urban history, and the history of American social movements. Currently, he serves as a professor of history at Columbia University in New York City.\nHe is the author of numerous scholarly works on the intersection of sports, society, and politics, including the books The Stadium: An American History of Politics, Protest, and Play (2024) and The Sports Revolution: How Texas Changed the Culture of American Athletics (2021), and has provided commentary on a wide variety of podcasts, radio, and TV programs.\nMcFaddin-Ward House Museum lectures are admission-free and open to the public, but space is limited.
