Americana artist and Beaumont native Jesse Dayton is best known for his guitar contributions to albums by country musicians including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson.

Dayton was born in Beaumont, Texas, where he was raised on the music of George Jones, Hank Williams, and Lefty Frizzell, all the while harboring an affinity for the spirit of punk with bands like the Clash. After touring with two rockabilly bands, the Road Kings and the Alamo Jets, Dayton ventured off into solo territory, recording his Americana-chart-topping record Raisin’ Cain.

Since then Dayton has released several different solo albums and worked with a variety of country rock artists, most notably Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash on Right for the Time after Jennings injured his picking thumb and required a guitar stand-in.

In 2004, horror film director Rob Zombie commissioned Jesse Dayton to record an album for the fictional characters Banjo & Sullivan from his sophomore feature The Devil’s Rejects. The resulting album was a collection of tongue-in-cheek honky-tonk country entitled Banjo & Sullivan: The Ultimate Collection. In Zombie’s Halloween II, Dayton performs as the lead singer and guitarist of the fictional psychobilly band Captain Clegg & the Night Creatures. He is slated to release an album entitled Rob Zombie presents Captain Clegg & The Night Creatures (music from Halloween II) on August 28, same day as the film Halloween II premiered.

In 2014, he toured with John Doe both as the opening act and a member of Doe’s backing band. In 2015, Dayton played guitar in the band X on their US tour, filling in for Billy Zoom who had been diagnosed with cancer. In 2016 he again toured with John Doe as well being the opener on the Supersuckers European and US tours.

On September 16, 2016, he released his ninth album titled The Revealer on his Hardcharger Records imprint through Blue Élan Records.

Dayton was the featured speaker at the City of Beaumont’s BMT Film Fest in August 2019 and shared his insight about the music and film industry.

Museum Pub Crawl in Downtown Beaumont Friday, Nov. 15

Join the Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Downtown Beaumont Cultural Arts District (DBCAD) for a Museum Pub Crawl Friday, November 15, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in downtown Beaumont in honor of EATBMT Restaurant Week.

The Beaumont CVB and DBCAD are teaming up with area restaurants and Del Papa Distributing Company to create "Beer and Bite" stations at the three host locations: Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET), Texas Energy Museum and Fire Museum of Texas.

Other museums and attractions will have booths at AMSET to showcase their establishments as well.

Tickets are sold on Eventbrite for $10 and will need to be redeemed at the registration/check-in desk at AMSET by showing a printed ticket or e-ticket. Once checked in, participants will receive a wristband for entry to the museums and the "Beer and Bite" stations, as well as a map.

Get your all access party pass to get beer and bites to sample, then enjoy the exhibitions at each of the museums and stick around for a musical performance at the Fire Museum of Texas.

Parking will be available at the Beaumont Civic Center across from AMSET and the Texas Energy Museum.

Annual Concert by the Beaumont Interfaith Choral Society

Beaumont Interfaith Choral Society's annual concert will be held on Sunday November 17, 2019 at 3pm at FUMC-Beaumont. Admission is FREE. Renee Kloes will be conducting this year's concert where the singers with instruments will perform five sacred choral works by various composers. The Beaumont Interfaith Choral Society was founded in 1963 by the choirs of First United Methodist Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, First Christian Church, and Westminster Presbyterian Church to perform concerts of sacred choral music free of charge for the Beaumont community. During their many years of contribution to the music culture of Beaumont, members of the society have represented more than forty churches and synagogues. Singers are volunteers from throughout Southeast Texas.

Marty Haggard: A Tribute to “My Dad” Merle Haggard

Join Marty Haggard, the oldest son of the legendary Merle Haggard, as he pays tribute to his dad through stories and songs. Marty calls his dad the greatest singer/songwriter in music history. Marty will share stories of the past, while growing up by his dad’s side as he was writing and recording these great country music songs. Marty will also share a few of his original songs.

Marty has had his own accomplished career, performing country music for forty years. But his love for his dad’s music inspired him to begin a tribute show, which he began performing in Branson, Missouri in 2010 before taking the show on the road. Step back in time and learn a little more about the life of Merle Haggard by someone who knew him best. Enjoy an evening of real country music, Haggard style! Artist Statement

I have never encountered an insight about traveling that I felt described my experiences as well as this quote from Maya Angelou:
“Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.”

We all tell stories with our lives, whether we realize it or not. That in itself is art. When I stepped foot onto the beautiful soil of Honduras for the first time in September of 2004, my story changed, for the better. I truly believe that the human spirit yearns for wholeness; it thirsts for the sacred knowledge that can only come by the uncomfortable expedition of the heart. I never imagined the impact that my travels would have on me. Now I cannot imagine what my life would be if I had not made these, at times, reluctant journeys. For in them, after all of the fears and trepidation subsided, what I found is when I embraced another person, looked into their eyes, what I saw was me.

Window to the World: The People & the Places is a tribute and celebration of all those that blessed my path with their love, kindness and humanity. They have made my own window by which I see and experience the world that much more robust and sublime. This exhibition is for them.

Artist Biography

Jerome Cabeen graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas with a Bachelors of Fine Art in 1990. He taught art for many years at the high school, middle school and elementary school levels in Houston, while painting and drawing on the side. In 2004, Cabeen begin an international journey that would lead to his immersion into photography. From 2004 through 2010, he lived in Honduras, Central America and Liberia, Africa, teaching art and directing Catholic missions.

His experiences in these countries, as well as the 30 others that he has visited, gave him a new window/lens/paradigm in which to see the common thread that connects us all, our humanity. The exhibition Window to the World: The People & the Places is a photo journal of his experiences and interactions with peoples and places from all around the globe.
